High expectations, big disappointment
"I had high expectations for this, but it disappointed me—just like other cheaper products. I recently moved into a new home and decided to upgrade. I installed one in the laundry, hoping it would solve my problem: just tear and use. Unfortunately, the reality is that most of the time the paper just keeps rolling. It rarely tears cleanly in one go, no matter what direction or amount of force I use. I’m using VIVA kitchen paper towels, which are my favourite brand. I’m not sure whether it works better with other brands. Overall, I’m very disappointed. I spent quite a while Googling and researching before finally choosing this product because of the good reviews, but it still didn’t meet my expectations."

Good idea, poor execution.
"I love it being off the counter, but it's very hard to rip a piece of good quality paper towel off with one hand. It works only with very specific technique (slow tear holding close to the perforation, and not from the bottom of the piece), and only sometimes. It's like there isn't enough tension; any downward pressure to pull/rip a piece off (which would be normal human movement) just makes the roll unravel. Our installation is under the cabinet towards the back, after we discovered that aligning with the front of cabinet improves its ability for one handed tear by pulling up and along. Too late now, the instructions should make that apparent, but they actually show it inset a bit. So it's a good idea but the design doesn't hiit the execution satisfactorily for their description of one handed use. Two hands. . . . Hold it and rip. It's just an expensive towel holder of which many other exist."
