How to Choose the Right Bin for You
Share article
A kitchen bin isn’t a glamorous purchase, we’ll admit it. But the right one can make a massive difference to your daily life.
Discover our bin range
Our range of bins offers large capacities in smaller footprints, because we know that floor space is precious in the home. Each of our household bins boasts special features, whether that’s offering separate compartments in one tidy tower (Totem); the ability to compress rubbish to help reduce trips to the wheelie bin (Titan); or bins which handily store their own liners (Arc™).
Most of the bins we offer feature integrated odour control via our activated carbon filters which do a great job at absorbing unpleasant odours, helping to keep your kitchen smelling fresh. Let’s break it down.
Totem - separate compartments for waste and recycling
Bins with compartments make for easier emptying on bin day, and mean you don’t have to have more than one container for rubbish and recycling. The Totem range handles household rubbish, recycling and food waste in one tall tower. The different sections make for efficient waste management and a bin that’s easy to keep clean, as all the inner compartments can be easily sanitised and wiped down once emptied (there are no bottomless, cavernous buckets to try to scrub here).
How does a bin that doesn’t need constant emptying sound? Titan’s integrated compactor helps you fit more waste in one bin liner, reducing the frequency of trips to the wheelie bin. The built-in rubbish compactor also means you get the most out of every bin liner. Using fewer bin bags is good for both your wallet and the environment.
Titan stores 30L of rubbish in one compartment, and is operated by a foot pedal which makes it a hygienic option during kitchen prep.
💡Tip:
One of the most important things when choosing the size of bin for your kitchen is that you measure the space where you’ll be placing it. Always check that the width and depth of your chosen bin will fit in your space (all dimensions are provided on our bin product pages).
If you’re looking for a streamlined rubbish solution, consider Arc™, which has a pedal within the body of the bin itself. It boasts a handy pocket which stores replacement bin liners at the back of the bin, so that you always have liners on hand when you need them most. Arc™ stores 30L of rubbish, and is also available in a smaller 10L format. Foot pedals are especially handy when you’re in the middle of a messy kitchen task and don’t want to use your hands to open the bin. The lid is soft-close for a satisfying and smooth experience.
💡Tip:
Food waste caddies are a great addition to busy kitchens. These are ideally placed on a counter top as you work, so you can keep your worktops free of detritus and clutter as you cook. Post-meal, it’s a good idea to move your food waste bin near your dishwasher for easy waste disposal as you load.
Our food waste caddies are easy-to-fill and are designed to reduce mess during meal prep, keeping your kitchen clean and tidy. Collect™ is made of stainless-steel which is a durable material as well as a good one for blocking out smells. It has an integrated odour filter, which hides discreetly on the underside of the bin lids.
This bin’s wide opening means you can scrape food waste directly off your plate, and the removable inner bucket makes it easy to empty.
Bathroom bins are traditionally clunky and don’t offer much capacity. Our EasyStore™ range offers a 5L capacity in a footprint that is shaped so that it can fit neatly and discretely into corners or under sinks without becoming obtrusive. Like Arc™, EasyStore™ also features a removable inner bucket and has a pocket at the back to store bin liners, so that the process of emptying your bathroom bin is quick and hasslefree. 💡Tip:
Choosing the material and colour of your bin is a big decision. It’s best to go with a material that’s easy to clean and a shade that blends in well with your kitchen. Stone or stainless steel work well for lighter colour schemes while matt black and grey options fit in well in darker coloured kitchens.
FAQs about choosing the best bin for you
How do I know what bin capacity I may need?
Finding the best kitchen bin for your space starts with understanding the bin capacity you require. The size you need will depend on the size of your household and how often you cook. Bin sizing is measured in litres (L) starting from around 4L for a food waste caddy, up to 60L for our largest bin.
Where should I place my kitchen bin?
A general household bin is best-placed in a location that’s easy to access and close to where you do most of your food prep. The benefit of freestanding bins is that they are not limited by cabinetry that house them and are often easier to access. If your bin allows for waste separation like the Totem, positioning it in an easy-reach location at the end of a counter or in a corner offers the easiest access.
